Within today’s rapidly shifting music landscape, one thing I stand firmly against is the rise of SUNO‑generated “artists.” Creating music through that platform is, in my view, a far greater disservice to the art form than performers who mime on stage. It strips away the human craft, the struggle, the creativity, and the emotional truth that real artists pour into their work. Equally concerning is the growing trend of individuals buying their way into artist or music management roles despite having no genuine understanding of music beyond the most basic level. This is unfair to artists, who deserve experienced guidance rather than being used as vehicles for opportunists seeking a quick profit. The music industry thrives when real talent is supported by real expertise — anything less undermines the integrity of the art and the careers of those who devote their lives to it.
Where It All Started For X3M
Music has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t just something I listened to — it was something I grew up inside. Not long after I was born, my mother worked alongside Ozzy Osbourne’s mother at the Lucas factory in Newtown, Birmingham. I didn’t understand it then, but looking back, it feels like one of those early threads quietly tying me to the world I’d eventually step into.
School added another unexpected connection. I attended the same school where members of Duran Duran were educated. We weren’t there at the same time, but I was taught by the very same teachers who helped shape their early years. Even as a kid, I sensed there was something special about being in those classrooms — like the walls themselves carried stories, and I was walking through the echoes of people who would go on to define entire eras of music.
I think I was about eight or nine when I went to my first gig at the Birmingham Odeon on New Street. The band was Cheap Trick — an American group I’d never heard of, and I couldn’t have named a single song. But none of that mattered. What struck me wasn’t the music; it was the world around it. Seeing the stage layout, the PA stacks towering on either side, the sheer scale of it all — that was the moment something clicked. I didn’t know the band, but I knew I wanted to be part of whatever that world was. The thrill of it stayed with me.
Those early experiences didn’t just introduce me to music; they anchored me to it. They became part of my identity long before I realised I’d spend my life working in the industry.
